'Deus Ex: Mankind Divided' release date, gameplay news: New gameplay footage surfaces, showcases more details ahead of August release

 Square-Enix

Square Enix has dropped new details on the upcoming "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" sequel via a new gameplay reveal.

Writing on the U.S. PlayStation Blog, Sid Shuman of SIEA is convinced that after two hours of a preview play for the upcoming sequel, the gameplay and design harkens back to the original, though there are noticeable difference in each game version. Shuman says, "I can say with confidence that it comes the closest to matching the singularly special original. That's the highest praise I can give."

Meanwhile, the new gameplay preview, while letting players walk and feel their way on "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" for some minutes, also showcases how the game augmented its arsenal of new features. The gameplay highlights the different environments, weapons, gears, and different skills based on augmentations for Adam Jensen, the main protagonist in the continuing story.

According to Gamespot, one improvement that the new gameplay tease reveals is that the stories for both the main campaign and side missions are more complex than ever. Rather than being add-on side jobs, the side missions take on a story of their own. However, though these missions are as complex and relevant as the main story, they are not essential to finishing the campaign.

The new augments also reflect most of the timeskip in-game, since they are more sophisticated than earlier versions, and also more costly. While the concussion blast and speed burst enhancements are added bonus, using them in the sequel is also taxing for the player, since Jensen needs more energy than before. In addition, the dev team cleverly put a "heat limit" on Jensen, so that players will not have access to all of augments at the same time.

"Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" launches for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Aug. 23.
