Game 1 was a very tense affair, which could have easily gone either way, but ultimately it was Detroit that held on to claim the Game 1 win.

Max Scherzer can take a lot of credit after racking up double-digit strikeouts. He also managed to overcome a late home run from Yoenis Cespedes to hold on for the win and help the Tigers steal home field advantage in the series.

Scherzer finished the game with 11 strikeouts through his seven innings, getting the best of the Athletics' lineup for most of the game.

Cespedes did manage to get a triple off Scherzer in the second inning, and he also managed to hit a monster home run in the seventh, but the Tigers held on for an important win.

For Detroit, Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila both posted run-scoring hits in a three-run first inning against A's starter Bartolo Colon.

Colon did manage to recover to pitch five consecutive scoreless innings before giving way to his relief pitchers.

For Game 2 Justin Verlander (13-12, 3.46 ERA) will be handed the ball for the Tigers, and he will be facing off against the A's rookie Sonny Gray (5-3, 2.67 ERA).

The game will start at 9.07 p.m. ET and can be watched online through live stream by clicking here.
