Bungie has just updated "Destiny: The Taken King" with a major December patch. However, it seems that the developer still has some long-term plans with its futuristic sci-fi shooter. According to reports, the developer is planning another major update to go live come early next year.
In a post on Bungie's website, marketing director Eric Osborne wrote that the company has long-term plans including a major update early next year. Osborne wrote, "The first of these early 2016 experiences will be on a scale close to Festival of the Lost. The second will be far larger than anything you've seen since the release of The Taken King. There's also another significant update to the world and sandbox planned in this same window."
While Osborne did not indicate directly the scope of the planned major update, Games Radar reported that the updates will cover everything in the sandbox (Bungie's term for every item interacting directly with players) including events, activities, content, and features. In addition, there will be significant changes and additions to the Director, the feature that lets players control almost everything in "Destiny," from map selections to activity and mission parameters.
The industry follower also guessed that Osborne was hinting at Sparrow Racing League's continuation, subject to player and fan feedback. The in-game racing feature is currently active only as a holiday in-game event and will only last for three weeks, up to Dec. 29. However, Osborne apparently wrote that the three-week slate for SRL is only the "current" timeframe, subtly and indirectly hinting that it could still change.
"Destiny" is already on its second year, and Bungie has already rolled out three expansions for the title, the current one being The Taken King. In terms of system and gameplay patches, Bungie also recently rolled out a major patch, update 2.1.0, with some of the changes detailed in an excerpt.
