
One of the surprises at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo was game creator Hidetaka Miyazaki's return to helm another "Dark Souls" installment. Miyazaki returning for the third continuation means that fans will be looking forward to another great "Dark Souls" experience, following the lukewarm reception received by the non-Miyazaki saga, "Dark Souls 2."
However, after pouring all his efforts in one of this year's runaway hits, "Bloodborne," fans were wondering if Miyazaki and his team would be able to replicate the uniqueness and success of the original "Dark Souls" or if the third installment will just be a molded stamp-out following the genre.
Those who have previewed the upcoming game agree that Miyazaki and the development team of From Software have done it again, making "Dark Souls 3" both a continuation of the saga and a fresh new game in itself.
According to game industry observer IGN, previewing "Dark Souls 3" in this year's Gamescom convention gave fans a sneak peek on the combat system of the upcoming title. This spoke volumes about the game, since one of the many features that fans love about the "Dark Souls" franchise and its cousin game "Bloodborne" is the fluidity of the combat system while the character is engaged in fighting. "Dark Souls 3" will introduce players to Weapon Arts, one of the add-on features in the franchise. Using Weapon Arts on enemies trigger special attacks after the player controls the character into the Ready stance.
Adam Smith of RockPaperShotgun also lauds the upcoming title's quick combat system. In addition, the variety of AI enemies also makes the title much darker, tougher, and more frenzied than the previous titles. The game observer site also surmises that should "Dark Souls 3" be the last of a trilogy, the upcoming title as another Miyazaki masterpiece is a worthy tribute for the franchise.
