Boxing rumors 2016: Amir Khan sees tough road ahead against Canelo Alvarez

Amir Khan knows he has big odds against him when he faces World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez this May.

Regardless, the British southpaw has never been known to lack the confidence against anyone. With that said, he technically defies the advantage that the Mexican obviously has and believes that he will upstage Alvarez when they take the ring.

But if it is any consolation, Khan believes Alvarez is a tougher foe to get by compared to two pound-for-pound greats who shunned him from a potential blockbuster — Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

Against Mayweather and Pacquiao, he believes the odds are even as far as size and weight are concerned. Using that shunning to his advantage, the Briton believes that he was turned down because the two were afraid of him.

That claim could be true or then again the exact opposite. Even though Khan will say otherwise, the actual reason both fighters opted to go in a different direction is because of Khan's questionable punching power and glass chin.

The good news is that both fighters as well as his critics will get to see firsthand if those allegations are factual or not.

Against Alvarez, Khan is expected to try and use his agility to the hilt since a big shot from Alvarez could be catastrophic for someone moving up a heavier weight class for the first time.

Alvarez will want a brawl and the best Khan can do against someone like that is to avoid being cornered. If the Mexican is able to do so, Khan could get severely beaten up and no place to go.

Khan could care less about what critics say. He is confident he will give a good show and even sees himself defying all those odds if he is able to carry out his game plan.
