'Battlefield 1' beta release date news: Open beta to start Aug. 31

 EA DICE

Developer DICE has confirmed that the open beta for the upcoming shooter "Battlefield 1" will commence at the end of the month.

Announcing the development on the official website, the studio also laid out what the open beta entails. Players will get access to one location in the upcoming title, the Sinai Desert map, which will make gamers "make tactical use of the dunes as you engage in explosive battles." The studio also revealed that in addition to players duking it out in the map, in-game reinforcements are also included in the open beta. The announcement confirmed, "When all hope is lost, reinforcements will arrive in the shape of a powerful Behemoth: a deadly Armored Train charging through the desert sands."

Players can get two modes active during the open beta – Conquest and Rush. The former is a staple mode for previous "Battlefield" franchise games, with each team fighting to take over some objectives in a large map. In the open beta, up to 64 players can participate in a single location mission. Meanwhile, Rush can be played by up to 24 gamers in a version of base vs. base team gaming. The defending team will have strategically-placed telegraph posts, which they can use to call artillery to their enemies. Meanwhile, the attacking team must try to take down all the posts in a given amount of time.

In announcing the release date for the open beta, DICE has also confirmed that early access is also possible. Prior to the August 31 launch, members of the "Battlefield" Insider program will get a chance to play a day early. Gamers who are interested in the early access need to sign up as members until Sunday, August 21.

The open beta announcement for "Battlefield 1" also came with a new trailer. Meanwhile, the full version of the game launches on Oct. 21.
