'Batman vs Superman' movie update: Batman's new cowl and cape unveiled

The San Diego Comic-Con has arrived and just like every year, there's tons of new news about TV shows and movies unveiled at the event. "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" is no exception.

Zach Snyder's new movie will feature Batman in his new costume. This year marks the 75th anniversary of Batman in Detective Comics #27. Hence, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. celebrates it by displaying Batman's capes, cowls and costumes at the Comic-Con. The display includes Batman's new cowl and cape in the upcoming movie.

DC Comics co-publisher Dan Didio tweeted a photo of Ben Affleck's Batman costume. Snyder also posted a photo showing Affleck's profile as Batman.

What makes the new costume different from the other Batman costumes? The new cowl is more similar to the comic book Batman costume design. It resembles the sculpt of the cheekbones and eyebrows. According to Screen Rant, this isn't much of a surprise since Snyder's "Watchmen" had very similar costumes to the comic versions too.

The previous cowls made it look very awkward around the neck. The new cowl might just make it look less awkward seeing that it also has little space to work with on the neck area. We can all just wait and see how Affleck will carry the new cowl design.

On the other hand, Batman comic fans might feel disappointed that Batman's costume isn't colored back and gray like many hoped for. Nonetheless, there is a chance that the costume might be a mix of light and dark gray, which will still stick to the comics.

DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. might reveal more about the characters' costumes eventually until the movie's release. "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" hits the theaters May 6, 2016.
