Barcelona will play Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night as the quarter finals of Europe's premier football tournament gets underway. The two Spanish clubs will be fighting it out to gain the advantage in this first leg as they look to claim a place in the final four of the competition.
The game is scheduled to start at 7.45 p.m. BST (2.45 p.m. ET) and can be watched online through live stream – free for subscribers – via the link provided below.
In years gone by, analysts would have given Atletico near to no chance in this match up against Barcelona. However, this season Atletico have more than proven they are ready to step up and be considered among Spain's elite clubs.
Atletico are currently top of the Spanish La Liga as the season approaches its final straight, and for the first time in years they have made it through to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Barcelona have revived their push for the La Liga title, by recently defeating Real Madrid, and they are second – a single point behind Atletico.
That means both domestically and in Europe, Barcelona are their biggest threat to claiming silverware this season right now. They will meet twice in the Champions League over the coming weeks, and then once again on the final day of the La Liga season in what many are hoping will be a title decider between the pair.
Atletico may not have the star quality of the Barcelona side, but they have strong players who have gelled amazingly well together, and their work rate has been praised throughout the season.
Gerardo Martino has said that his Barcelona side must match Atletico for effort in today's game at the Nou Camp. "We need to match Atletico's intensity. Our strength is playing as Barcelona always do, but we need to cope with their intensity," said the Argentine. "We need to try to win and not concede to give ourselves a margin for the second leg."
