Android Nougat OnePlus update: Will OnePlus X get the update too?

OnePlus already hinted that it will roll out the Android Nougat update soon. It is expected that the update will roll out to the current flagship, the OnePlus 3. However, the tech maker has yet to confirm if the update will also come out for the previous-gen OnePlus 2 or OnePlus X.

Previously, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau hinted that they are "actively working" on the Android Nougat 7.0 update for the OnePlus 3. This means that users may expect the update to roll out soon. Meanwhile, it is also expected that the Android Nougat update will go out to the previous-gen flagship, the OnePlus 2.

However, OnePlus has not stated if it will also release the Android Nougat update to another lineup iteration, the OnePlus X. Reportedly, an update is unlikely, since the OnePlus X runs on Snapdragon 801 chipset. Although the chipset still performs adequately, specs requirements for an Android Nougat rollout limit chipsets above the SD 801. It is already confirmed that another SD 801-run flagship, Sony Mobile's Xperia Z3, will not be updated to Android Nougat. Apparently, the Adrena 330 GPU in the Xperia Z3 does not support Vulcan or OpenGL ES 3.1, a requirement for Android Nougat 7.0.

The OnePlus X also has an Adrena 330 graphics chipset.

Meanwhile, although it is not yet official if the OnePlus X will receive the update or not, TechTimes reports that enterprising developers have managed to come out with an alternative update. Supposedly, running CyanogenMod on the device allows a custom Android 7.0-based ROM to run on the OnePlus X. However, since it is an unofficial ROM, there are stability issues as well as known glitches.

The OnePlus X was launched last year. It features a 5.0-inch AMOLED screen with full HD display, and its Snapdragon 801 chipset is paired with 3 GB of RAM. It followed as a step-down alternative to the then-current OnePlus 2, which was released some months prior.
