Speculations suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 may get the new Android Nougat platform in two to three months, which means that the flagship will be one of the first in line when the new platform rolls out, speculated to be in September.

According to Korea Times, with the launch of Samsung's new flagship, the South Korea-based tech giant is looking to further update the Galaxy Note 7 with Android Nougat as soon as possible. The industry follower noted that as per Samsung, the Galaxy Note 7 is expected to update to Android Nougat 7.0 in two to three months, or before 2016 ends. Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung Electronics' mobile communications division, stated: "It is very important for us to offer up-to-date information with the new OS, but what's more crucial is to build a stable and seamless platform for users."

However, Koh added that before the Android 7.0 rolls out for the new flagship, the firmware will have to undergo a beta phase first. The Samsung executive said, "That's why we are planning to do enough beta testing before any OS updates." It is unclear though, if the beta phase is already included in Samsung's year-end target for the Galaxy Note 7 update.

The newest Samsung flagship is released with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 right out of the box.

Meanwhile, although Samsung has yet to peg a specific roll out date for the Android Nougat release, the new timeline matches closely with how the new platform is designed. In previous Android versions, Google rolls out the stock ROM to its Nexus lineups first, making sure that each supported Nexus device updates first, before releasing the Android firmware to tech makers and mobile carriers. However, the new Android Nougat has a background update feature, and it is expected that it will streamline the update timelines for Google and third-party players.
