While Google is readying the full version of its upcoming Android Nougat platform, some devices are still waiting for their update to the current-gen Android Marshmallow. The latest to update their flagship list is carrier AT&T, for the BlackBerry Priv and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.
In the support notes for the update, AT&T revealed that the staggered release started on July 13, although it is still unclear if the update has already made it to all BlackBerry Priv users on the network. If Priv owners didn't get the update notification, the Android Marshmallow file can be downloaded manually. As with previous Android updates, users only need to refresh the Check for Updates option in the About Phone > System Updates tabs in the Settings menu. If the update is successful, the Android Version lists 6.0.1 under the Settings tab, with Build Number AAF355.
The Android Marshmallow update brings new features to the BlackBerry Priv, and carrier-specific tweaks like security patches, camera upgrades, and notifications and keyboard improvements.
Meanwhile, AT&T also rolled out Android Marshmallow to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. With the update installed via an OTA update or a manual refresh in the Settings, the new update brings Android 6.0.1 to the device, with baseband version T817AUCU2BPF2. The new update also brings the NumberSync feature to the slate. This means that users will be able to receive voice and video calls using their existing mobile numbers, and even if the calls are note answered using their smartphones.
It can be said that the Android M updates are already in a late stage since Google is almost ready with Android Nougat. This has been the case with previous major Android updates. Most tech manufacturers and mobile carriers layer their own Android platforms, using the stock ROM as base. Google released Android M last year.
