Android 6.0 update release date arrives for Droid Turbo 2 device

Speculations about the upcoming Android N are already floating online. However, some companies have yet to roll out the current Android M platform to all eligible devices. Verizon is one of the known service providers that are slow in updating their lineups, but the mobile carrier is doing all it can to try to catch up, as with the case of Droid Turbo 2.

According to GSM Arena, the mobile carrier has re-started its Android Marshmallow roll-out to the Droid Turbo 2, which was halted midway last month. However, instead of the usual one OTA notification update, the industry follower mentioned that Verizon put up two updates for the Droid Turbo 2, and these two are required for a full Android 6.0 migration. The first part updates the current software version of the device to 23.31.24. After the software version is updated, users can either wait for the second part to arrive via OTA, or check the Settings and About Phone tabs for the 24.14.10, which contains the official Android Marshmallow version.

Although the reasons are still unknown why Verizon halted the Marshmallow roll-out to the Droid Turbo 2 last month, fans still expected the release to continue, since the company held soak tests for the device prior to the Android 6.0 re-release this week.

Android Police listed down the features that will be unlocked for the Droid Turbo 2 when updated to Android 6.0, and the improvements are a combination of device- and carrier-specific tweaks and general Android changes from the official Google platform release. New features include Now on Tap, the Doze mode, and App Standby.

Meanwhile, heavy data and app users can also enjoy the new adoptable storage brought by Android 6.0. With this feature turned on, owners of the Droid Turbo 2 can transform their microSD cards into internal storage, meaning they can use the expanded memory to install and run apps.
