Android 6.0.1 update: Samsung Galaxy, Moto G series continue Marshmallow rollout

 Android Developers Blog

With the full version of upcoming platform Android N reportedly releasing soon, more tech manufacturers like Samsung and Motorola are pulling out all the stops to update their devices to the latest Android 6.0.1 version.

For the South Korea-based tech giant, the base Marshmallow 6.0 update is almost completely rolled out for all the handset and tablet lineups. This makes releasing the 6.0.1 update much easier and quicker, as the update will only install minor tweaks and improvements which will not take up much time and data.

Among the Samsung Galaxy lineups, the current Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are reportedly already receiving OTA updates for Android 6.0.1, and other flagships like the Galaxy Note series and previous Galaxy S- versions like the S5 are also set to receive the new Android version soon.

The rollout is both for the global, unlocked version and carrier-locked variants of the different Samsung Galaxy models.

Other manufacturers like Motorola are lining up to update their devices to Marshmallow 6.0.1 too. According to Android Central, Motorola has started rolling out its 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to the company's Moto lineups, starting with the Moto X Play earlier this month. For the Moto X flagships, it is also speculated that the 6.0.1 Android version will also roll out soon for the Moto X Style and Moto X Force iterations.

Meanwhile, Motorola is also expanding its 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to include other Moto lineups. Recent reports suggest that the Android 6.0.1 update has also started releasing for the 2015 Moto G and Moto G Turbo in India. It is unclear though, if this is for the unlocked version or carrier-specific variants. However, with the rollout already starting with the above-average Moto G handsets, Moto fans may expect the Android update to continue on in the weeks to come.
