AMD has already started releasing its newest budget entry GPU on the market, and first impressions of the Radeon RX 480 continue to circulate, with industry followers praising its above-average specs and performance in a budget-friendly price range.

According to Engadget, AMD is known to provide above-average and even top-tier graphics cards without the huge price tag, and this has been proven true once again with the Radeon RX 480. Its starting price is around $200 and it supports VR content. The industry follower states that this is one of the key selling points of the new GPU against higher-priced graphics units, since some of the current lineups on the market have listed prices starting at $350 for minimum VR specs.

Comparatively, the new GPU scores decent points against other GPUs such as the new Nvidia GTX 1080, and even competes with the current GTX 970. While the RX 480 performs at around half the levels of the new GTX 1080, it has similar scores with the GTX 970, which will put it at an advantage, considering that the 970 also has the minimum VR specs and still priced at around $300.

Eurogamer also points out that one of the biggest improvements that AMD introduced with the new Radeon RX 480 is an HDMI 2.0 port. This makes the RX 480 a compatible GPU for graphics-intensive content, and may even work out with minimum 4K gaming.

Meanwhile, the Radeon RX 480, while a budget card, is also a showcase unit for AMD. Even if the highest configuration for the card remains at the $420 budget-friendly range, the new GPU is still considered the first AMD card to feature the new Polaris 10 architecture. This is the same type of chipsets that are said to feature in upcoming entry-level and mid-range desktops and notebooks, particularly the new Apple lineup.
