"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 3 had one of the best winter finales, with a cliffhanger that is making the winter break unbearable for many fans. Fortunately (or unfortunately, as the show does not return for a good three months), though, actor Clark Gregg offers his insight on "the coolest thing" to expect about season 3's return.

Clark Gregg, who plays S.H.I.E.L.D. director Phil Coulson in ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," attended the premiere of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." IGN caught up with him and asked him to dish some thoughts about season 3, both about the finale and its return after the break.

While he did not go into specifics about the episode that's going to welcome fans next year, the 53-year old actor did tease about some "mind-blowing" information on Hydra's origins.

"One of the coolest things that I've come across a script is what this thing is that is now inhabiting the body of Grant Ward and how that connects to the beginnings of Hydra. That's gonna blow some minds," Gregg says.

The connection does make sense as season 1 was all about Hydra, while Inhumans were the focus of season 2. There is a chance that season 3 will explain how these two connect to each other.

Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) and his Hydra troops have already started exploring that connection in alien planet Maveth, surprisingly with the aid of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Coulson. But there's still more to discover about that connection, only this time it will be in the eyes of "Ward 2.0" (Dalton's own words, via another IGN article) as the "old" Ward had already been killed by Coulson.

Speaking of that death, Gregg also weighs in on his character's actions. He says Coulson definitely crossed the line, however his action is justified as Ward did some things that merited his death. Alas, Ward might be a hard character to kill.

Watch the Hydra connections to Maveth and Ward 2.0's new evils when "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 3 returns to ABC on March 8, 9 p.m.

In the meantime, fans can get their Marvel fill on the same network with "Agent Carter" season 2, which premieres on Jan. 19.
