It has already been hinted that Google may be tapping HTC to make the follow-ups to the successful Nexus 5X and 6P. There seems to be substance to these rumors as it has been reported that HTC has already signed a partnership with Google.
According to BGR, a report out of China mentioned that HTC has inked a deal with Google, reportedly to be the manufacturer of upcoming Nexus lineups for at least the next three years. The post added that allegedly, HTC will be starting its Nexus run with two flagships for this year, a 5.0-inch and a 5.5-inch follow-up to the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.
Should this be proven true, it will not be the first time that HTC has made a Nexus iteration for Google, as HTC was the manufacturer of the original Google Nexus One in 2010. HTC is also the one responsible for another Nexus device, the Nexus 9 tablet.
While this story has yet to be confirmed by both parties, GSM Arena surmises that HTC may be taking stock of its precarious business standing right now. It is no secret that the company's sales figures, particularly those of its smartphone division, are on a dive. This three-year partnership with Google seems to be the best thing that will pull HTC out of a slump, aside from releasing the much-anticipated HTC 10 and the Vive VR headset.
Meanwhile, since HTC made a Nexus tablet in the past, fans may be wondering if there will also be a tablet iteration from the company. While this is still unclear, current speculations say that Google is in talks with another emerging tech giant, Huawei, to make a refreshed Nexus 7 tablet. Reportedly, Huawei is planning to unveil this new Nexus iteration at this year's annual Google I/O Conference scheduled for May.
