Xiaomi Redmi 4 release date, specs rumor: Next Redmi said to come out next year with Helio X20

Speculations suggest that Xiaomi is readying the follow-up to its Redmi lineup, with the next iteration coming out next year with an above-average MediaTek chipset.

Phone Radar reports that a leaked list out of China mentions what will be the Redmi 4. Interestingly, the industry follower notes that while only scant details on the specs sheet are available on the list, it did mention that the list itself is of those upcoming lineups that will feature a new MediaTek processor, the Helio X20. If this is proven true, then the Redmi series will deviate from its main chipset variants, since the previous Redmi 2 and Redmi 3 lineups used a Qualcomm chipset – Snapdragon 410 and 616, respectively.

In addition, the industry observer adds that while Xiaomi is looking to switch its processor for the next Redmi, the Helio X20 is a surprising choice. Apparently, the Helio X20 is an above-average chipset, and is even compared with top-tier processors such as the Snapdragon 820. However, only one flagship – the 360 N4 out of China – is currently featuring the Helio X20 chipset.

While details are scant for the upcoming Redmi 4 at the moment, it is expected that the new iteration will also be priced accordingly, much like the previous lineup iterations. The Redmi 3 has an original price tag of 699 Yuan, and the new addition will also possibly fall within the same price range when it launches next year.

Meanwhile, it is also possible that the Redmi 4 will launch as a full lineup in 2017. The current-gen Redmi 3 originally launched as a base model. It has then expanded as a full lineup, with the Redmi 3 Pro version releasing as a step-up iteration with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Just recently, Xiaomi added another iteration in the lineup, the new Redmi 3s with a Snapdragon 430 processor and a fingerprint scanner.
