Xbox One Games with Gold August 2016: List changes next week

Xbox One Games With Gold free games for August 2016 Xbox/Microsoft

As with previous lists, the current lineup for the Xbox One Games with Gold program will change in the middle of the month.

The current lineup is a mix of major franchise titles and classic games. For the Xbox One, the major "Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate" is available for the whole month of August, along with a remnant from last month's free games list, "Tumblestone." For the Xbox 360, fans can download "Spelunky." The previous-gen title is also playable on the Xbox One via backwards compatibility.

Members of the Xbox Live Gold will have the chance to download the two until the weekend. Starting August 16, the list will be updated. "Tumblestone" will be replaced by "WWE 2K16," an Xbox One title which will carry over to next month's list, as the game will be available as a free download until September 15. Meanwhile, "Spelunky" will be replaced by "Beyond Good & Evil HD" from August 16-31.

Fans are expected to take advantage of these free games for the last few days on the list, since "Spelunky" and "Tumblestone" both have regular price tags of $19.99. The same is also true for the other titles. Although "WWE 2K16" will stay on the list until the early half of September, its normal price tag of $39.99 will make fans take advantage of the free download period. "Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate," meanwhile, has a $59.99 price tag.

The monthly Games with Gold program is already past the half-year mark, though Microsoft continues to provide a players a mix of major, triple-A titles and classic games. The program has been one of the more popular features of the console, particularly against the PS Plus program of its rival Sony PlayStation. Previous Xbox One Games with Gold lists included franchise games such as "Saints Row," "Rainbow Six Vegas," and "Tron Evolution."
