WWE return rumors: who will Randy Orton face at SummerSlam 2016?

When will Randy Orton return to WWE? WWE.com

WWE has officially confirmed that Randy Orton will make his return to the ring with a match against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

In last week's episode of SmackDown, WWE officially announced that on Aug. 21, Randy Orton will come back to the ring with a match versus Brock Lesnar. The announcement has also been made official on social media.

The SummerSlam match will be Randy Orton's first after a long absence from the WWE ring. The wrestling superstar has been whisked away from the spotlight following a string of injuries. Last October, it was announced that Orton suffered from a Bankart lesion in his shoulders, in addition to stretched ligaments and a partially torn rotator cuff. When the announcement was made, it was revealed that the superstar would take at least four to six months to heal. However, it is said that although coming out of injury, his experience will count the most in the upcoming match. Orton already has 12 World Titles under his belt.

Meanwhile, Lesnar will be shuttling back and forth between the WWE and the MMA rings, since the superstar is both an active wrestler and an MMA fighter. The last time that he has stepped onto the squared ring is a loss against the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania 32. This weekend, The Beast will be tackling Mark Hunt in the Octagon for UFC 200.

According to WWE, although both are already long-time veterans, this is only the second time that The Beast will be paired off against The Viper. The last time that Lesnar and Orton squared off was back in September 2002, when the two were still fresh-faced rookies. However, Lesnar had already been a WWE Champion at the time and came out with a victory.
