World Vision Hong Kong rebuilds homes, schools, in China earthquake zone

Since the 7.9-magnitude quake struck Sichuan province in China over a month ago, Christian humanitarian organisation World Vision Hong Kong has raised millions of pounds towards the disaster relief and reconstruction efforts.

for the disaster zones in Sichuan, Gansu, and Shaanxi, and has been engaged in full scale disaster-relief work. Approximately 1 million people will benefit from this humanitarian aid.

World Vision has been active in the badly hit cities of Guangyuan City and Deyang City, helping an estimated one million people.

So far, their aid workers have handed out 31,000 blankets, 7,000 tent kits, served 2,000 people by constructing temporary shelters.

In the worst affected areas of Yuanba Qingchuan County, World Vision has distributed large-scale tent kits that will act as temporary schools, allowing 9,000 students to continue their education.

Addressing the food shortage, World Vision has passed out 240,000kg of rice to the victims in Hanzhong City in Shaanxi and Tianshui City in Gansu.

To help the victims rebuild their community and their lives, World Vision is urgently moving forward with plans for reconstruction.

They are looking to build 5,800 houses, 50 schools, including dormitories, and initiate projects promoting public health awareness. They also aim to re-start farming and agriculture.

As a stepping stone in the reconstruction process, World Vision Hong Kong is building 200 temporary classrooms and 300 temporary restrooms in Sichuan and Gansu and providing 5,000 students with resources for their studies.
