"Wonder Woman" may not have hit theaters yet, but director Patty Jenkins is already preparing herself for the film's sequel. She said that she already has an idea of how the film will go.

In an interview with The Toronto Sun, Jenkins shared that she would like to show the superhero in a future timeline. She said, "I'm excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero. I'd like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing."

She did not reveal, however, what period she wants to show the character. Given that "Wonder Woman" is set during the time of World War I, she and the rest of the production team have their pick on when to set the sequel.

Jenkins, who revealed that she was a long-time fan of the superhero, also said in the interview that the decision to feature the origin story was because this has not been presented on the screen. She narrated, "I always thought the origin story would be the great way to go. I love origin superhero stories and I love the simplicity you can have with that journey. Also, there was the fact that no one had done her story and the fact that I love her. So it was a treasure trove of potential."

According to /Film, this will be the first time that the origins of Wonder Woman and her life in Themyscira will be presented on the screen. Even Linda Carter's "Wonder Woman" series, which ran from 1975 to 1979, showed Diana Prince already integrated into human society.

A lot of expectation is riding on "Wonder Woman," especially given that this will be the first DC Comics film that will be released following "Suicide Squad" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," both of which were critically panned. Given this, it is highly likely that the studio will wait and see how "Wonder Woman" will perform in the box office first before deciding if it will be getting a sequel.

"Wonder Woman 2" will be released on June 2.
