'Wonder Woman' 2 release date rumors, sequel news: Gal Gadot, Patty Jenkins share follow-up ideas

As "Wonder Woman" braces for a worldwide release on June 2, star Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins revealed they are interested in doing a sequel. Early reviews showed the story of DC's most popular female superhero is already a hit as it gained mostly positive reactions from critics and advanced viewers.

Gadot and Jenkins shared their ideas for the "Wonder Woman" sequel during the press junkets. For the star, exploring her character's younger years as Diana would be most appealing given that Wonder Woman is 3,000 years old. "I would love to explore the early years of her in man's world," Gadot told The Hollywood Reporter.

Jenkins, on the other hand, want to explore a sequel on the superhero's arrival to America and her rise to fame around the world. "I think it's very important that she goes on to be a very international superhero," Jenkins told Fandango.

This was not the first time Jenkins discussed the possibility of a "Wonder Woman" sequel featuring Diana's American life. The director also revealed the same to the Toronto Sun back in April.

Jenkins, however, said there are no set plans for the sequel just yet. "These movies take a lot of time," she told the news outlet.

Meanwhile, box office numbers for "Wonder Woman" are predicted to go beyond the $100 million mark on its opening day, according to analysts Shawn Robbins via CNBC. There's a lot going for "Wonder Woman" apart from the impressive reviews the film has been getting thus far.

The movie is the first to explore the Amazon princess' origins on the big screen as a live-action production. It is not a reboot nor a remake compared to recent superhero films featuring characters like Superman, Batman or the upcoming "Spider-Man: Homecoming" flick with Tom Holland.
