A man thought he was being pretty clever and funny when he proposed to his girlfriend at McDonald's after stuffing the engagement ring in the bun of a Crispy Chicken Deluxe meal.

Sadly, his girlfriend did not think so and instead of the "yes" he was expecting, she gave him an incredulous look and said, "You're not serious."

The proposal has become a YouTube hit after the rejected suitor posted it under the username Joseph Ann.

"I met my girlfriend two years ago in LA. I've never been good at planning in advance which is why we wound up ending our first date at this exact McDonald's. She joked for months about how 10 years down the road I would probably propose to her in a chicken nugget box so I thought she would love when I surprised her this way," he writes in the video description. "She didn't love it like the way I thought she would. We agreed to wait longer until it's time to get engaged."

The video, which is just a bit over five minutes long begins when the man picks his girlfriend up and asks that they pick up something to eat.

Later, he is seen at an unidentified McDonald's drive-thru ordering the Crispy Chicken Deluxe meal with a diet Coke. He later tells his girlfriend to open the sandwich and check if there isn't too much mayonnaise, and the girl admits: "This is so weird."

She agrees anyway, and when she opens the box, she begins to chuckle, then looks at her boyfriend in disbelief.

"Will you marry me?" he asks.

His girlfriend keeps quiet and keeps looking at the sandwich then back at him. She laughs for a while, covers her mouth, then says, "You're not serious. You can't do this. You can't do this."

The guy looks shocked at his girlfriend's reaction and urges her to "say something."

"This is not what you do," she then tells him, but he still takes the ring off the sandwich and places it on her finger and says "surprise!"

"Babe, what's wrong?" he later asks when she was seen crying.

"This is a joke," she says. "I can't marry you in a chicken sandwich. My God. Oh my God."

"I mean, I thought it was a surprise," he says.

"I can't marry you," she tells him again. "This isn't a joke. I know everything is a joke with you but this isn't a joke. I can't marry you."

"What do you mean you can't marry me?" he asks.

"You just asked me on a bun," she says in finality, and in the end his girlfriend just covers her face in total disbelief.
