Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update release date: PC and mobile can now enjoy the update

Windows 10 in action Microsoft/Windows

Microsoft has rolled out an integrated Anniversary Update release for its Windows 10 platform, and the update is now live in both its desktop and mobile versions.

In an announcement on the Windows blog, it is confirmed that a new build for the Insider Preview version of Windows 10 has been rolled out. Interestingly, the new update also went out to the Windows 10 Mobile platform. The update marks the first build update for the mobile platform since the Windows 10 Anniversary Update rolled out.

The new build has introduced further improvements to the Windows 10 Mobile platform. Fixes contained in the update include adding in-line options to missed call notifications; lock screen freeze fix; and a known issue with the music app player.

However, even if the new Windows 10 Anniversary update included a new build for the mobile platform, Microsoft still listed some known issues even after the update launch. Reportedly, apps being moved to SD and vice-versa will get stuck in a pending state. In addition, one major feature for the Windows 10 platform, the text-to-speech option for Cortana, has been turned inactive by the update.

Aside from known issues with the mobile platform, some users are also reporting an extended issue with the main Windows 10 firmware after the update. According to The Verge, the new update build purportedly breaks third-party webcams, even if the users have logged on using Microsoft's own Skype video features. Reportedly, the issue has been prevalent across all third-party webcams, including known brands like Logitech.

Microsoft has acknowledged the issue, saying, "We have seen a small number of reports of unexpected behaviors following the Windows 10 Anniversary Update." The tech giant also hinted that more fix updates may be coming out soon, as "Engineering and customer support are investigating these on a case by case basis and offering trouble-shooting tips as necessary."
