Watch Dogs PS4 is not 1080p; resolution for Xbox One is 972p

Gamers have been eager to get their hands on Watch Dogs and its creator, Ubisoft, will be hoping the news that the game is releasing at a lower resolution than expected will not dampen people's appetites for the next-gen game.

The developers have confirmed on their blog that the highly anticipated game will run at 900p on the PS4 and 792p on the Xbox One.  The frames-per-second will be 30 on both consoles.

It had been expected that Watch Dogs would run on the PS4 at 1080p resolution and 60-frames-per-second.

But it seems Ubisoft have decided gameplay must come before the visual quality. And they insist the game "looks great on both generations of consoles".

"Resolution is a number, just like framerate is a number. All those numbers are valid aspects of making games," said Creative Director Jonathan Morin.

"But you make choices about the experience you want to deliver. In our case, dynamism is everything. Exploration and expression are everything. You want to have a steady framerate, but you want to have dynamism at the core of the experience. The same goes with resolution."

Watch Dogs has been in development for six years and will be releasing to the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC on May 27.

The game had been due out last November but was delayed to this spring to give Ubisoft more development time.

A Wii U version is expected to release later.
