Walk ACROSS Over London Prays to Revive the UK
In the era of post-Christendom and the threat of secularisation, churches in England are struggling to break free from the fate of membership decline, just as the rest of Europe. While churches and evangelists in the UK are striving to find new ways to create a fresh image for the church, a number of prayer initiatives are being set up to bring revival to the land by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Walk ACROSS Over London serves as one of the supporting ministries along with the Soul in the City mission initiative which was held between July and August and drew 20,000 young people from all over the world to participate in a two-week faith project and a concluding grand celebration at Trafalgar Square.
The vision of Walk ACROSS Over London was to engrave a virtual cross on the land of London through prayer walking across London from north to south and from east to west. The idea also flows from Walk the Walls circular prayer walks around London held every year.
According to LondonPrayer.net, last year was the last year of seven Walk the Walls circular prayer walks around London. With reference to the Book of Joshua in the Holy Bible, the army of Joshua marched around the City of Jericho for seven days, on the seventh day, the wall of Jericho collapsed. To change the whole United Kingdom, London is just as important as the City of Jericho in the land of Canaan. After praying around London for seven years, now is the time for Walk ACROSS Over London to walk and pray right in to the heart of it.
A more significant spiritual meaning for Walk ACROSS Over London is that the coat of arms of the Corporation of London has a red cross in the central position. The motto of London beneath, which is about 400 years old, is “Domine Dirige Nos” - which means “Lord lead us.” Prayer walking across London as the “Lord leads us” is simply one way to re-establish the cross over London.
The prayer walking plan was to walk 3 days north to south from Kitt’s End north of Barnet to Old Coulsdon, south of Croydon and 4 days east to west from Erith to Staines using the Thames Path. Prayer went on as the teams walked during the day and then the church where the team stopped was responsible for overnight prayer, so it fits with the 24-7 London Prayer programme.
On Sunday 12th September, the team will finish at the last checkpoint - Staines (London Stone). An open air prayer concert will be held at 7:30PM to conclude the event.
