"True Detective" Season 2 will have a completely new storyline and a new set of cast. While HBO hasn't confirmed any casting rumor yet, this won't stop rumors and speculations about which actors and actresses will headline the show.

Show creator Nic Pizzolatto said that there will be two lead actors and one lead actress for season 2. There's a rumor going around that Elisabeth Moss might be the lead actress in the upcoming season. In a recent interview with USA Today, she was asked if the rumors were true.

"Not in the way everyone is talking about, honestly. I had to ask my own people, "Have you not told me something?" she said. "For me as an actor who's been in this business for over 25 years, it's so flattering to be associated with that show. (And) for anyone to think that I could be a part of that show."

Clearly, Moss did not deny nor confirm the news, so there's a good chance she might've been approached for the role already. Other actors that are rumored to take the lead in "True Detective" season 2 includes Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Brad Pitt, Gerard Butler and Jessica Chastain (who passed on the lead actress role).

According to The Wrap, this will be the new storyline for season two: "'True Detective' will follow the death of a corrupt city manager of a fictional California city who's found brutally murdered amid a potentially groundbreaking transportation deal that would forever change freeway gridlock in the state. Three law enforcement officers from different cities and branches of the government are tasked with finding out who did it. They soon discover their investigation has much broader and darker implications than they initially thought."

Vaughn is rumored to play the main antagonist for the new season. He might play Frank Semyon, who is working with the local mayor to push the construction of the Southern and Northern California high-speed railway in order to gain a lot of money.

Farrell is said to play the lead protagonist and Taylor Kitsch might play the young investigator by the name of Paul Woodrugh.

The script for season 2 is still being polished and HBO is already looking for a couple of directors for multiple episodes this time around.
