'The Walking Dead' season 8 spoilers: Will Maggie give birth this season? Showrunner teases Glenn's possible return

It has been a while since Maggie (Lauren Cohan) revealed on "The Walking Dead" that she was pregnant with Glenn's (Steven Yeun) child. The baby news was first announced back in 2015 in the first half of season 6. Now that season 8 is just around the corner, fans are wondering whether she will finally give birth in one of the upcoming episodes.

Unfortunately, Judith (Chloe and Sophia Garcia-Frizzi) might be the only kid they will see this season. "The Walking Dead" showrunner Scott Gimple told TVLine that it is still too early to have Maggie's baby on the show.

"In the [comic] books, she didn't give birth during this storyline," he said.

It may feel like it has been forever, but a look at the show's timeline reveals it has actually not been all that long. As co-executive producer Denise Huth revealed on the most recent Blu-ray release, the entirety of season 7 takes place across only 19 days. With season 8 picking up just a few days later, it is still a long way to go before the show welcomes Maggie and Glenn's child.

However, fans might be compensated for the baby's delay with Glenn's return.

Yeun's character was brutally beaten to death by Negan in the season 7 premiere, leaving fans traumatized and heartbroken. Although it is impossible to bring him back to life, Gimple left the door open for his possible appearance saying, "I can only say there's a chance."

Nothing is confirmed now, but if Yeun does reprise his role, the most likely option would be a flashback or a vision, much like with Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) in the third season and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) in the season 7 finale. Either way, fans will be delighted to see him back in the show one more time.

"The Walking Dead" returns to AMC for its eighth season on Sunday, Oct. 22. The premiere marks the 100th episode overall for the popular zombie series.
