Now that "The Orville" has just concluded, fans and viewers of the series will be glad to know that the sci-fi comedy will be returning for a second season next year.

The show, which was created by Seth McFarlane, was picked up midway through the season by Fox. It was initially intended to be a limited season because of the expensive production and post-production that was needed. Elaborate special effects are known to cost money in television and movies. However, it seemed Fox had given it another look and decided to renew it for another run.

Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn shared recently, "Once again Seth has struck a powerful chord with viewers. He has delivered a series full of optimism, drama and his trademark humor. We want to thank him and the rest of the talented cast, as well as the producers and crew, for an incredible first season. We can't wait to see where 'The Orville' travels in the second."

In the season finale, Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane), Kelly Grayson (Adrienne Palicki), and the rest of the crew visited a strange planet that seemed to exist in two different dimensions. It would appear every 11 days then disappear into the other dimension. However, every time it appeared, the civilization on that planet would have advanced 700 years.

Things took a serious turn when Grayson appeared to one of the inhabitants, who thought she was a god. After two cycles had passed, it turned out that Grayson's image was worshipped and a religion had spawned because of her. Nevertheless, the robot Isaac (Mark Jackson) stayed on the planet and was able to correct the civilization's belief system after another cycle into the future.

"The Orville" season 2 is expected to return sometime in 2018. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation unfolds.
