'The Mentalist' season 7: How will Patrick and Teresa's relationship end in series' final season?

"The Mentalist" Season 7 might just be the final season for the police TV drama from CBS. Showrunners are making sure that, if the show does end this season, Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon will get their happy ending. Come to think of it, they might have prepared last season, too.

Season 6 ended on a very happy note, with Patrick and Teresa sharing a passionate kiss in the finale episode. If the series ended there, fans of the love team would have been very happy already. But here comes Season 7 and it picks up two weeks after the long awaited kiss. What's the aftermath?

While show creator Bruno Heller hints that Patrick and Teresa's relationship will have a satisfying ending, it won't be an easy road for the two. FBI Rookie Michelle Vega, played by Emily Swallow, will be introduced in Season 7, and she will be part of Jane's team. To add, Agent Vega looks like she will be the person to add some chaos in Patrick and Jane's relationship.

Heller had a chat with The Hollywood Reporter and he shared further details about Patrick and Teresa's relationship, and what Red John has to do with it.

"After (serial killer) Red John goes, for both Lisbon and Jane, there is a palpable sense of 'What now? Do I really want to continue doing the same thing?'" said Heller.

He also added, "It left the two of them without an excuse to decide where that relationship was going. They had always been able to keep it separate. Those questions start bubbling up and the rest of the season was the resolution of those questions."

There is still no confirmed release date for "The Mentalist" Season 7, but actor Tim Kang hinted that it could be around January 2015. The first three episodes are "Nothing But Blue Skies," "The Graybar Hotel," and "Orange Blossom Ice Cream," as tweeted by writer and producer Jordan Harper.
