'The Legend of Zelda' Wii U release date news: 2017 release to lift cover on Link's backstory?

'The Legend of Zelda' for Wii U. According to supposed leaks, a version will also launch for the upcoming Nintendo NX. Nintendo

Nintendo has already confirmed that the new "The Legend of Zelda" game will come to both the upcoming NX system and current-gen Wii U console next year. However, details on the game itself are still hard to come by. According to some hardcore fans, though, the previous teasers and gameplay trailers may offer a glimpse of what course the game will take.

According to Design&Trend, one of the more popular fan theories on how the new "The Legend of Zelda" title will play itself out is already teased in a gameplay trailer. Reportedly, the outfit that Link is wearing in the trailers contains both elements from the Sheikah and Gerudo. This "harmony" is impossible in the current franchise timeline, since the Sheikah serve as Hyrule's protectors, while the Gerudo are associated with Ganondorf, one of the main antagonists in the series. The outfit with the elements from the two forces combined signals that Link may be traveling across Hyrule in a time when the two forces are not at odds with each other, hence the story occurring even before the events in "The Legend of Zelda" games took place.

Nintendo is expected to provide more details on the game at this year's E3 event, as the studio has already promised that it will devote its E3 appearance to the franchise. New details on the event are welcome info to the hardcore fans, who have been waiting for confirmed "The Legend of Zelda" details for at least two years. Nintendo skipped last year's E3 event, and the last time that the company released some information on the game was in December 2014, at The Game Awards.

Meanwhile, "The Legend of Zelda" releasing on the Wii U has dispelled rumors that the upcoming Nintendo NX is a replacement console. Details on the system itself are still not plenty, with some speculating that the NX is a hybrid system, able to function both as a Nintendo console and a handheld, mobile game device.
