'The Legend of Zelda': New live-action series coming to Netflix

"The Legend of Zelda" is one of the most phenomenal franchises to ever hit the gaming realm. It is a huge success as a game, and proof to that is the cult-material fanbase behind it. Now, its success and its major following are being tapped by Netflix, which is set to create a live-action series out of the Nintendo classic.

Link's mission to bring Princess Zelda back to safety will not only be witnessed through a gaming console. The online streaming service has begun the development of the title's adaptation, according to Wall Street Journal. The site went on to say that the series will be much like "Game of Thrones" but one that's family-friendly.

The news of a reworked version making headway comes as a surprise to many as Nintendo is known for swathing its franchise with watertight vests. Not to mention the horrible stab to a live-action film adaptation of "Super Mario Bros," one of the company's biggest and most celebrated offerings. And fans could not easily forget the disparaged attempt to bring Hyrule's young swordsman on television back in 1989. Clearly, it was not received in the way its creators hoped, thus making it a mere fleeting series.

Nevertheless, Netflix is working closely with what looks like a very willing Nintendo, and gamers hope that the former will get it right this time. Besides, there is a ton of material to work on. The game is such a massive franchise that it spawned copious sequels enough to leave Netflix stressed and indecisive in simply choosing which one to go for. Or maybe, the streaming site could even go all-out and make up an entirely new story out of it.

Media outlets have fears about how the series will turn out. "The Legend of Zelda" is a big hit as a video game but it does not mean that bringing it to television will generate the same reception. Forbes added that the franchise is very tricky to put together and that even its horde of fans has trouble in laying it all out in one big picture. True enough, there are so many considerations that come along with the idea of a "The Legend of Zelda" series. But fingers crossed for Netflix to pull this one off.
