Naughty Dog writer/director Neil Druckmann recently teased "no one is safe" in the upcoming sequel of the action-adventure horror video game, "The Last of Us."

Druckmann made the statement during Sony's PlayStation Experience (PSX) that kicked-off on Friday, Dec. 8. When asked by the interviewer if Joel — "The Last of Us'" main protagonist — is still alive, he replied, "Everybody dies at some point."

Druckmann's tone seemed serious as he claimed that no character in "The Last of Us 2" will be safe. "There are stakes – there are real stakes," said Druckmann.

"With 'The Last of Us: Part II', especially with this theme and what we're trying to say with this game, is knowing that no one is safe — not even these two [Joel and Ellie]," he added.

According to IGN, the "theme" Druckmann mentioned was "of hate" which was shown in the new trailer released at the "Paris Games Week" in November. He even added how fans of the first game may not like the "The Last of Us 2." However, there will also be moments of "hope" as well as "lighthearted moments."

The first "Last of Us" game focused mainly on the theme of "love." For the game's fans, Joel and Ellie's love for one another was apparent as both tried to save each other's lives during the game.

Druckmann also revealed a few more things during "The Last of Us 2" PSX panel, including some major details of the game. Apparently, a large part of the game takes place in the city of Seattle.

Druckmann later on added that "The Last of Us 2" is 50–60 percent complete. Naughty Dog is still on track on releasing the game sometime in late 2018.

Lastly, Druckmann added that more details on "The Last of Us 2" will be released at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) which will be held in June 2018.
