Fans have not seen "The Last of Us 2" yet, but the game's director wanted to remedy that, as he has now teased and revealed some details of the upcoming sequel.

Last Saturday, Dec. 9, at the "The Last of Us 2" panel for PSX 2017, the production team of the highly-anticipated game discussed the direction that it is now taking. The panel included director and writer Neil Druckmann, along with co-writer Halley Gross, as well as Ashley Johnson, Troy Baker, and several other members of the voice cast. They were also accompanied by some of the staff of Naughty Dog, the development team of the game.

Apparently, the previous protagonists of the first game, Joel and Ellie, are not insulated from mortal danger. Druckmann, in a response to the query of whether the two will die, has cryptically stated that "no one is safe, not even [Joel and Ellie]." This could mean that the writers might actually decide to kill them off in favor of a more compelling story. They have also suggested that they wanted to raise the stakes for the protagonists of the game, as they have done in their other game, "Uncharted 4."

Rest assured, the game already has a beginning and an end in terms of story and plot. This was according to Gross, who is co-writing the game with Druckmann. Gross is also known for her work with HBO's "Westworld" series. While Gross has expressed that her work with the production team of the game was a great collaborative experience, Druckmann still was not sure about the big middle part of the game's story. They apparently had some awesome ideas but could not share it yet with the public.

Fans may now start the countdown, however, as "The Last of Us 2" is approximately 50 to 60 percent done based on Druckmann's estimates. This means that the game will be ready in time for an E3 2018 game presentation. Hopefully, there will be no delays, and the game will also be released on 2018, but right now, there are no official plans yet.
