'The Elder Scrolls 6' release date, rumors: Sequel to drop in 2018 at the earliest?

The Dragonborn in "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim." Fans will have to wait a bit longer for its follow-up as "The Elder Scrolls 6" is rumored to come out in 2018 at the earliest. Bethesda Softworks

Though speculations suggest that the game is already in the pipeline, fans will have to wait a bit longer for "The Elder Scrolls 6," as the title will not come out anytime soon.

Industry followers believe that there is still at least two to three years before developer Bethesda will officially release "The Elder Scrolls 6," placing the schedule in 2018 at the earliest. However, it is most likely that it'll see the light of day in 2019. The estimated release period is due to Bethesda shifting focus first for its current top project, "Fallout 4." Even if the current game has already been released, the studio still reportedly plans to give the title more expansions, aside from the major updates that the game has already received. In fact, Bethesda has just released a new major DLC for "Fallout 4" dubbed as "Nuka-World."

However, even if the release period is still far way, it doesn't mean that Bethesda has already put "The Elder Scrolls 6" on the backburner. According to speculations, the creative team may have already started checking out the design and gameplay for the next installment. There are also talks that "The Elder Scrolls 6" will incorporate new game features like VR support.

Having a virtual reality option for "The Elder Scrolls 6" is unconfirmed, but is highly likely. It is already a given that the "The Elder Scrolls" franchise is one of the top projects for Bethesda, and the studio is likely to feature novel and game-changing options for its installments. With VR tech in the gaming industry already taking flight, it is just a matter of time before big-name developers like Bethesda feature VR content in their games.

Meanwhile, the 2018 release period for "The Elder Scrolls 6" remain unclear, though industry observers believe that the game will not release later than 2019. This seems possible since it has already been some time that Bethesda has come out with a major franchise installment. The sequel's predecessor, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," had been released way back in 2011.
