With 30 years in the existence of "The Amazing Race," it is definitely one of the oldest reality competitions at the moment. During its last few seasons, it has not been performing as well as it used to. However, with season 30 kicking off since the new year, its ratings have been getting higher and higher, so it may just get a renewal for two more installments.
While many still doubt this, the show's host himself, Phil Keoghan, is quite confident about the show's future. "Race is doing well," says Keoghan straightforwardly via Reality Blurred. "I think we'll probably end up doing one, if not two, more seasons this year," he continued.
"My first priority is 'Race,' because I've committed to that," says Keoghan, who is also slated to host "Explorer." His claims for the renewal are backed up by the season 30's ratings. It definitely is getting higher, and in fact, it is the show's highest rating in the last five years. The latest episode itself was a testament to this.
The episode last week was the highest-rated broadcast TV show, and it was the fourth in the list of most watched shows for viewers aged 18 to 49. When asked about how the show was able to pull their ratings back up, Keoghan credited it to CBS for putting the show in their new Wednesday timeslot. Then, he also noted that many of the views came from people who may have missed the show during its absence.
Of course, that is aside from the fans who have continued to support the show despite flagging ratings in the past runs. To them, Keoghan repeatedly gave his thanks. He is confident as well that as the show goes on, fans will still keep their TVs on to "The Amazing Race."
