The Afters Named New Artist of the Year

|PIC1|Popular emerging Christian rock band, The Afters, were honoured with a Dove Award at the 37th GMA Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee on 5 April, 2006.

“It would be hard to overstate how thankful and humbled we are to be recognized by our peers in this way,” expressed The Afters on their win. “We are deeply honored to be a part of this community and the opportunity to reach across the genres to impact lives with our music.”

The band was also presented with an ASCAP Award for their song “You” last Monday, being one of the most played songs for 2005. The band also performed during the ASCAP Awards their hit song “Beautiful Love.”

Meanwhile, “Beautiful Love” remains in the Top 30 downloaded songs on iTunes, climbing to No. 21 today. The highly acclaimed song is currently the theme song for the MTV reality series “8th & Ocean.” Since the premiere of the show last month, The Afters have sold more than 40,000 digital tracks of the hit song. This song will appear in the upcoming Lindsay Lohan film, Just My Luck, which opens nationwide May 12, 2006.

Storming onto the scene with their debut release in 2005, I Wish We All Could Win, The Afters’ have been embraced by both the General and Christian markets. The duel market success of their national debut is evident with The Afters’ music appearing on the networks of MTV, mtvU, ABC Family, and E! News as well as on HOT AC and VH-1 radio along with mainstream media outlets such as Billboard, BOP and Popstar. The MTV college network, mtvU, has been a strong supporter of the band as their music video for “Beautiful Love” was awarded with an mtvU Award for Best Streaming Video in 2005. The Christian media have also adopted this foursome as CCM magazine selected I Wish We All Could Win for the Editor’s Top 10 Albums of 2005, and Relevant featured the band as a Spotlight Artist.

The Afters’ earned their first no. 1 CHR Christian single with the Dove nominated, hit song “Beautiful Love,” in addition to charting in the Top 30 on HOT AC for more than 16 weeks. During their debut year, the band caught the attention of American Airlines and major teen retailer American Eagle as both utilized the band’s music video for “Beautiful Love” for major national promotions. In addition to the New Artist of the Year, The Afters were nominated for Rock/Contemporary Recorded Song “Beautiful Love” and Rock/Contemporary Album, I Wish We All Could Win.
