With the popularity of the Tesla Model 3 already apparent on the number of its pre-orders, it is said that the mass production of the upcoming electric vehicle may be extended up to 2020.

According to Teslarati, a guidebook showcasing the details on the upcoming Tesla Model 3 is already available for interested fans. Interestingly, the book by Roger Pressman, one of the early purchasers for the upcoming electric car, summed up the expected release date of the Tesla Model 3 to be extended well into 2020.

While there are no confirmed schedules to date, a timeline comparison with other Tesla lineups, like the Model S and Model X, spell out an extended production for the Model 3. In addition, being one of the most competitive products for Tesla, more and more fans are getting interested in the electric sedan, and its pre-order numbers continue to shoot upwards. This means that even with a production start date of late 2017, Tesla will need to make up for the huge volume of orders by lengthening the scheduled production run. This is even with an intended release of the pre-orders starting in 2018.

To date, the Tesla Model 3 already lists pre-orders upwards of $10 billion, with at least 400,000 units already reserved. The company is anticipating an increase in its production that Tesla has filed for an expansion of its Fremont, California assembly plant.

Meanwhile, as to when users can expect the Tesla Model 3, some observers believe that the company will overshoot its intended release timeline for the electric sedan. According to AutoWorldNews, there are reports that Tesla has already missed at least 30% of the company's intended numbers for the release of the Model 3 two years from now, possibly late in 2018. In addition, it is already expected that even without the reports, the Tesla Model 3 will have a delayed release, based on the delayed debut of other Tesla lineups, the Model S and Model X.
