With the franchise sequel confirmed for console release, it is now rumored that "Tekken 7" will have a cross-play feature on both the Xbox One and PS4.

However, the said feature will depend on Sony. According to Event Hubs, franchise designer Michael Murray has revealed that Microsoft – parent company of the Xbox One and PC – is already on-board with the cross-platform idea. Meanwhile, although the feature is already in consideration, it is now up to Sony if cross-play functionality will be permitted for the PS4.

Although no direct confirmation came from Microsoft, is seems likely that "Tekken 7" will at least be cross-played on the Xbox One and PC via Windows 10, particularly if the title will be under the Play Anywhere program for the current-gen console. Players will only need to purchase one copy of "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" for the Microsoft platform, but will be able to play the game on both the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.

Meanwhile, should Sony get on board with the cross-play feature, this means that fans on either Microsoft or Sony platforms will be able to go against each other. This will be exciting news for fans, and will add a new dimension to the supposed online gaming feature for the game.

Another thing that may develop from the new feature, should Sony get warm to the idea, is the cross-play feature will also be onboard the planned "Tekken x Street Fighter" sequel. According to iTech Post, the collaboration sequel depends on the success of both franchise games. With "Street Fighter V" already having a solid following, having cross-play features for the "Tekken 7" console release will score additional points for fans, and may be a huge factor in another "Tekken x Street Fighter" title pushing through.

"Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" is expected to be released early next year.
