It looks like fans now have a chance to see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson portray his much-awaited role as Black Adam. Despite the news that he won't be appearing as the "Shazam!" villain, the anti-hero could join his fellow antagonists in the upcoming "Suicide Squad 2."

A couple of insiders told The Wrap about the possible storyline of the superhero film sequel. In the second movie, the Suicide Squad members are going on a mission to find a weapon of mass destruction that happens to be Black Adam.

Although DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures have yet to confirm the news, the insiders revealed that Shazam's greatest enemy is going to be seen earlier than expected.

In an interview with Fandango earlier this year, Johnson teased that they had a very big surprise about Black Adam that he could not reveal yet. This might be the character's appearance in the "Suicide Squad" sequel.

The Rock teased that the surprise is about the DC villain's first introduction to the cinematic universe. To recall, the 45-year-old star revealed that he would take on the anti-hero role back in September 2014.

It was even announced that Black Adam was set to be introduced in "Shazam," but it was later revealed that he would have a standalone film instead. In an interview with Digital Spy, the film's director David Sandberg explained that there have been a number of script revisions where the villain had been included and removed several times.

Now, the decision had been made that "Shazam" will be all about Captain Marvel, thus Johnson's character as Black Adam was removed.

"Suicide Squad 2" has yet to receive an official release date, but production is expected to start in 2018. It will be directed by Gavin O'Connor.
