'Star Wars Episode IX' spoilers, news: A big change of heart may just happen

The release of the latest "Star Wars" trilogy brought about many parallelisms to the original trilogies. As more and more of these parallelisms are noticed by the fans, they could go on into theorizing what happens next based on these parallels. One big fan theory says that there is still hope for Kylo Ren, and Episode IX might feature just that.

That fan is none other than "The Last Jedi" director, Rian Johnson. He thinks that Kylo Ren may eventually be saved from the Dark Side in Episode IX. "Yeah. Are you kidding? Vader was worse than Kylo ever was, I think, and Vader go redeemed," said Johnson in an interview with IGN.

"Also, I should just for the record [say] that I'm not involved in the writing of the next movie. I'm an audience member in it, just like you so when I talk about what going to happen next, it's in the context of, as a fan, what I'm thinking of," the director said.

Fans of the "Star Wars" franchise will recall that, as Johnson said, even after all the crimes Darth Vader committed against the galaxy, he managed to redeem himself in the very end. Vader famously sacrificed himself by killing his master, Emperor Palpatine, and thus saving Luke and destroying the Empire itself.

"The Last Jedi" already showed the same parallel with Kylo Ren surprisingly slicing Supreme Leader Snoke in half. The second part where he supposedly would destroy the First Order did not happen. Episode 9 could possibly show this although it may seem a bit of a stretch.

In addition, there are already numerous parallels that were established: Rey's and Luke's humble origins, the similarity of the Death Star and the Starkiller Base, Rey to Luke as Luke was to Yoda, and many others. There are many possible scenarios that Episode 9 will bring. However, fans may just have to wait for the movie to come out by 2019 with returning director, J.J. Abrams.
