'Star Wars: Battlefront' DLC release date news: 'Battlefront' follow-up to feature content from upcoming 'Star Wars' movies

Star Wars: Battlefront EA Games/DICE

Fans continue to enjoy the current shooter from DICE and Electronic Arts, "Star Wars: Battlefront." It has been confirmed, though, that the game will have its proper sequel next year. Speculations say that the next installment will contain elements from the upcoming "Star Wars" movies.

According to GameSpot, in a recent earning call by Electronic Arts, CFO Blake Jorgensen teased that the new "Star Wars: Battlefront 2" game will have "bigger and better worlds," and will feature content from the upcoming "Star Wars" movies. The current game features content from the original "Star Wars" trilogy. Early in the game's release, the first DLC, "Battle of Jaku," was rolled out. The expansion content is supposed to bridge the gap between "Episode VI" and the recent "Episode VII: The Force Awakens" films in the franchise.

Jorgensen said, "Next year we'll see Star Wars Battlefront back with bigger and better worlds, because we now have the new movies to work off [and] not just the historical movies that we used before."

Currently, only a spin-off story from the franchise is scheduled to release this year. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will be released on Dec. 16.

Meanwhile, Jorgensen is unsure if the next "Battlefront" will be released during the period of the upcoming movie release. Should this be the case, then "Battlefront 2" may feature content from "Episode VIII," to be released next year. There may also be a "Battlefront 3" to feature elements from "Episode IX," tentatively scheduled to be out in 2019.

Outside of the planned "Star Wars: Battlefront 2" game next year, there are other "Star Wars"-inspired game installments in the works. One of them is a third-person title being developed by Respawn, while the other one – scheduled for 2017 release – is from Visceral and Motive.
