Electronic Arts has hinted before that a single-player campaign may be featured in the upcoming "Star Wars: Battlefront" sequel, with the new game to tie in closely with the anticipated "Episode VIII" movie.

Publisher Electronic Arts has already confirmed that a sequel to the highly popular "Star Wars: Battlefront" game will come out next year. However, the studio has yet to release details on what "Star Wars: Battlefront 2" will be all about. Speculations suggest, though, that EA will give in to feedback from the legions of players for the franchise and will feature single-player campaign missions for the sequel. Although there are campaign missions with AI and single player teams in "Star Wars: Battlefront," the game is still considered a massive online multiplayer title.

The single player campaign may take a story-based mission as Forbes states that the new game will take in content from the new films in the franchise, notably "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Star Wars: Rogue One." However, given that "Star Wars: Episode VIII" is also scheduled to come out next year – with a titular release date of December 2017 – EA is expected to come out with expansion content that will include the upcoming movie sequel.

The current "Star Wars: Battlefront" features content from the original "Star Wars" trilogy, and has already released a number of expansion DLCs. The most recent one, the "Bespin" DLC, is a take on events from "The Empire Strikes Back."

Meanwhile, Electronic Arts has also already laid down a roadmap for the "Star Wars" franchise, with Blake Jorgensen, chief financial officer at EA, saying "We'll most likely have one Star Wars title a year for the next three to four years."

There are already confirmed games in development by DICE, Visceral Games, Motive, and BioWare which reportedly include a VR title and a third-person action game.
