"Star Trek: Discovery's" midseason finale surprised a lot of fans, so they are now all waiting for Chapter 2 in January 2018. As the Discovery got lost in a strange land, the CBS series' showrunners Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts revealed that it was exactly their plan.

In episode 9 titled "Into the Forest I Go," a major malfunction happened to the ship's spore drive. Although it was questionable for some, in an interview with IndieWire, the executive producers admitted that it was the perfect place to end the show's first half of the season.

In episode 10 titled "Despite Yourself," the U.S.S. Discovery crew will be more creative to survive the different kind of forces at play in the place they are in. They will be doing their best efforts to return home.

Although the official synopsis of the show's next episode is somewhat similar to "Star Trek: Voyager," Berg and Harberts insisted that it is far more different than its predecessors. In fact, they said that Chapter 1 featured some episodes that were more standalone than others, like episode 8 titled "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum."

The said episode was about how "Star Trek: Discovery" tried to end a war by exploring a new planet. Berg even considered this chapter to be "a great break" for everyone. For them, it felt natural and they were happy doing it.

Chapter 1 might have some similarities with "Star Trek: Voyager," like being stuck in an unknown place, but Berg and Harberts are not afraid to be compared to the previous series. Berg explained that it is quite impossible to prevent the fans from comparing, especially if they see the show tread familiar places. But, he did insist that their characters are all different.

Chapter 1 of "Star Trek: Discovery" is now streaming on CBS All Access. Chapter 2 will start with episode 10 titled "Despite Yourself" to be released on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, on CBS.
