Southern Baptist missionary couple die in car crash

A US missionary couple have died in a car crash in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

IMB missionaries Randy and Kathy Arnett, from Missouri, worked with Congo4Christ and were on their way to conduct a training session when they were involved in the accident.

Two other missionaries, Jeff and Barbara Singerman, were also injured, as was their Congolese friend and driver, Jean Louis, according to The Alabama Baptist.

Congo4Christ's Facebook page asked for prayer for all the families concerned, particularly for the Arnetts' daughters as they arranged for the repatriation of their bodies back to the US.

The Singermans have been flown to Johannesburg in South Africa to receive treatment for their injuries, which are described as 'serious but not critical'; both require surgery.

Congo4Christ said shortly after the accident, a Baptist pastor, Claude, a friend of the Singermans, arrived on the scene and stayed with them as they were transported to a local clinic.

'He was a genuine source of encouragement, prayed with them and served them well. God is so good to provide comfort and this reminder of His faithfulness to the Singermans,' the post read.

Randy and Kathy Arnett worked in Togo, West Africa, and then in Ivory Coast. Randy had been IMB's regional leader for West Africa since 2004.

The IMB posted on Facebook: 'Please join us in praying for the Arnett family, as well as their friends and teammates. And rest in the fact that we do not grieve without hope (1 Thess. 4:13-18).'
