Sony Xperia X Performance release date: X Performance only has limited U.K. release

A limited quantity of the Sony Xperia X Performance will be made available in the U.K. in July. Sony Mobile

Sony has already launched its new Xperia X lineup across regions, though the most premium iteration in the flagship, the Xperia X Performance, has yet to complete its global roll-out. Reportedly, fans in the U.K. will get to experience the newest premium Xperia iteration, though only as a limited release.

In a post by U.K. carrier Clove, the mobile operator lists the Xperia X Performance with a mid-July release date. Fans can get the new iteration for £457.00 without VAT, or £549.00 including it. However, the Xperia X Performance with Clove will be available only in Graphite Black. In addition, other carriers and retailers have yet to confirm if the Xperia flagship will appear on their product list.

According to Android Authority, the U.K. release of the Xperia X Performance is a little peculiar, at least for its pricing. If the Clove price tags will be the set standard for U.K. prices, it translates to around $782 maximum, which is roughly the same price range as the Xperia X version. This is surprising given that the Xperia X is considered to be the base model in the lineup, with a Snapdragon 650 chipset. Meanwhile, as a top-tier flagship, the Xperia X Performance features the premium Snapdragon 820 processor.

In addition, the industry follower says that one issue with the limited release of the Xperia X Performance is that it will be competing with other company flagships. The previous lineup's top-tier flagships, the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium, are still on sale, and their prices are much more competitive than the new Xperia X Performance. Though the newer release enjoys updated specs under the hood, the top-tier Z5 lineup is still current by today's standards, and the specs are similar to the newer Xperia X releases. What's more, the Xperia Z series is known to carry waterproofing features, an option absent from the new base models of the Xperia X.
