Six Instagram accounts Christians should follow for a more inspiring and enlightening feed

 Pixabay

Less than two weeks since he launched his personal account on Instagram, Pope Francis (@franciscus) already has 2.2 million followers. He's not following anyone on Instagram which is probably down to the fact that he's far too busy to spend time scrolling through the millions of selfies that are uploaded daily, but if he's not sure which of the approximately 90 million active users to follow, this list may help. Whether you're new to the photo-sharing site like the pontiff or a veteran Instagrammer, here are six uplifting accounts that you'll want to feature in your feed.

Trip Lee @triplee116
This rapper, author and pastor has an account filled with pictures of him performing, preaching and praying. You'll find reading recommendations, updates on his upcoming projects and extracts from his faith-filled songs. Aside from all that, there are heart-warming snaps of his adorable kids, meetings with fans and famous faces such as Kirk Franklin and Tori Kelly.

National Geographic @natgeo
We can all look outside our windows to witness the beauty of God's creation but these National Geographic photographers will capture nature like you've never seen it before. It's no wonder that this account with 46.8 million followers is one of the most popular accounts on the app. Follow for people, places and pretty perfect photography of God's wonderful creation.

Humans of New York @humansofny
If you're one of those people who remain sceptical about our ability to truly connect with one another online, then look no further than photographer Brandon Stanton's Humans of New York account. He gets strangers to share intimate details about their life experiences on the streets of New York and photographs them in the most fuss-free yet captivating way. This account serves as a reminder that, despite our many external differences, we share so much. Plus, it's packed with encouragement for overcoming adversity.

Joyce Meyer @joycemeyer
Joyce Meyer's account gives followers a behind-the-scenes look at her projects, features excerpts from her books, and Bible-inspired quotes. She's not everyone's cup of tea but the account is a great one to follow if you're in need of a quick pick me up and her Hand of Hope updates will act as inspiration for anyone with the desire to help those in need.

HTB Church @htbchurch
This London-based Anglican church's account is about more than pretty pictures. They caption a lot of their uploads with questions to get you thinking about your relationship with God and faith-inspired messages to comfort and motivate you wherever you are on your journey. Their Lent photo series saw them posting snaps of polaroids against contrasting backgrounds. Very meta.

Hillsong Young and Free @hillsongyoungandfree
Hillsong have a few accounts, and although this one doesn't have the most followers (a mere 431k compared to Hillsong United's million) it is full of more than pictures from the Hillsong worship. You'll find news about their tour dates, special announcements and snaps of their song lyrics so you can get inspired about worship on the go.
