Apple Siri For Mac? New patent hints at possible desktop virtual assistant

Apple's most loved intelligent personal assistant and knowledge navigator appears to be on its way towards delighting Mac users soon.

Siri, the well-liked application from Apple, has been rumored to be currently under progress to be made available as a desktop assistant for Mac users. Evidence has surfaced that the digital voice-based assistant, which has already been greatly enjoyed on several iOS gadgets in the past years, might be developed as an intricate Siri for Mac assistant.

Fans and experts believe that the new patent discovered might actually indicate that Siri, which has been popularly known to cater to individual user's preferences, will be utilized more effectively and creatively in a more powerful machine.

Apple's latest patent, which describes an "Intelligent Digital Assistant in a Desktop Environment", has not particularly mentioned Siri's name. However, the similarities with respect to functionality and utility of the application appear extremely uncanny.

According to the patent, the rumored Siri for Mac would possibly provide OS X users comparable features as those included in the Siri version for iOS. These features might also consist of assistance for searches. Fans, however, speculate that the Siri for Mac would be capable of performing more advanced context-based actions.

Taking into account the more powerful make-up of a Mac compared with a mobile device, the alleged Siri for Mac is expected to be able to perform more complex tasks. These tasks might involve transferring files, holding a selection, organizing user's files in a folder, searching for information online, printing documents, initiating video playback, and other responsibilities, which typically necessitate mouse and/or keyboard input from its user.

The most fascinating feature, however, would be the capability of the Siri for Mac to allow the user to concentrate on his current work on the Mac while Siri performs an entirely distinct task simultaneously. All tasks performed by Siri and its user would be completed without closing any window.

This feature would be called the "Using Digital Assistant as a Third Hand" attribute of the more advanced application. For instance, this feature could permit the user to use a text editor while commanding Siri to conduct an online search for a specific image or information. In accordance with the description of this feature, both tasks would be performed uninterrupted.

If this rumor is proven to be true, then many OS X users will be more than pleased to receive Siri's assistance in performing their day to day tasks.
