Seafood supper raises funds for Apostleship of the Sea

St John Fisher’s Church in Grimsby played host to a fundraising seafood supper organised by Apostleship of the Sea volunteer Val Walsh last weekend.

For a donation, each visitor to the Immingham Seafarers Centre could enjoy a lovely seafood supper prepared and served by the families and members of the local pastoral council.

Apostleship of the Sea said the church hall was "bursting at the seams" with people who came to enjoy the food and donate to the ministry, which cares for seafarers visiting British shores by providing practical and pastoral care.

Parishioners from several of the parishes in North East Lincolnshire attended. Aileen Heald, a ship visitor in Grimsby and Margaret Barfield a trainee ship visitor were also there to help out and share the evening.

If supper was not enough, a quiz and a raffle were also held and the total sum of money raised for the evening was £384.40.

The Apostleship of the Sea volunteers in the Humber Region work endlessly to fundraise and raise awareness of Apostleship of the Sea, which relies on donations and the support of volunteers around the country to continue its vital work in the support of seafarers.

Apostleship of the Sea's port chaplains and volunteer ship visitors welcome seafarers, offer welfare services and advice, practical help, care and friendship.
