Employees, businessmen, executives and creatives all have one thing in common -- they have all felt a certain level of discontentment in their lives. It doesn't matter how "enjoyable" a job may seem to someone. We all get tired of doing the same thing over and over again.
Are you at a point where you feel a certain level of discontentment in your heart? It may not all be a bad thing. The great inventor Thomas A. Edison once said, "Restlessness is discontent and discontent is the first necessity of progress. Show me a thoroughly satisfied man and I will show you a failure."
I'm not saying that all discontentment is good. The Bible does echo how important contentment is, but it is also not healthy to sweep feelings of discontentment under a rug and ignore them. God desires for us to be completely open in our communing with Him, sharing both the good and the ugly.
If you're on a level of discontentment today, God may be calling you to surrender your life just a little bit more today. Most of the time, we find discontentment when a certain portion of our life has not been laid at the feet of Jesus's cross or maybe it was but we decided to pick up the tab ourselves once more.
If you're feeling discontented with your job, the best move is not to quit and start shuffling around job openings, but to first commune with Jesus and hear what He has to say about your job, career, calling and purpose.
Here are some scriptures that can hopefully lead you to God's presence as you seek Him through the discontentment that you battle with today.
Isaiah 26:3. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
Psalm 34:10. The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
Proverbs 10:4-5. Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
Matthew 6:33. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
John 5:17. But Jesus answered them, "My Father has been working until now, and I, too, am working."
Colossians 3:23-24. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.
1 Corinthians 10:31. Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
